Neat and inexpensive thing to do when in Pittsburgh. Great views of downtown from the top and a little museum with lots of newspaper clippings of the car throughout history. You can take a self-guided tour of the workings of the cables - quite fascinating! Very interesting to learn that this car was opened in 1877 as a way for the workers who lived at the top of the hill to get to the steel mills and factories along the river. A round-trip ride costs just $5 but they do require you to have exact cash to pay, I don’t think they accept card.
Very cool and cheap experience for $5 a person to go up and down. You get a really good view of everything. The pictures do most the talking here and if you're out in Pittsburgh this is something worth checking out real quick. A lot of history of the incline itself and surrounding areas. We had no line to wait in and there was a woman selling various things from ice cream bars too art of Pittsburgh, they have a change machine there now also. I saw some reviews complaining about having exact change. It does say It's cash only and exact change on the sign when you first walk in by the doors.
Pretty much exactly what it advertises. Has a great view of the city and at the top they also have old news articles about the incline and its history which was pretty cool! Only gripe is that the parking is like a ten min walk away separated by the highway but it felt too petty to take a star off for that.
This is one of those experiences that you have to add to your bucket-list because how of how surreal & dramatic it really is! The views are phenomenal! The museum also details INCREDIBLE stories & pictures that will blow your mind! The top portion of The Incline also serves as a working museum which helps to get a better understanding of how the machinery functions! There is an observation deck at the top which really offers ASTONISHING views! The customer service was super enthusiastic & kind! I cannot wait to see this place again!

Nice little piece of working history. Good for tourists, good for kids, good views on top, and only costs $5 round trip (cash). How does Pittsburgh deal with the extraordinary steep hills all around the area? Sometimes they dig tunnels. Once (in many lifetimes) they built this clever pair of interconnected cable cars. One goes up when the other one goes down; their weight counterbalances each other. Smart, practical mechanical engineering from the 1800's.
Fantastic views of the city. Trip only marred by rudeness of employees. Woman in booth at bottom was totally unpleasant, just yelling at customers through the plexiglass. Sorry we’re tourists and don’t know all the little rules. And the conductor at the top was not so pleasant either. When everyone in the car talks about the rude experiences they have you know you have a problem with your employees.
A Must Do if visiting Pittsburgh! This is a one of a kind transportation experience and a great way to get a different view of the 3 Rivers, as well as PNC Park and Heinze Field.
Saturdays in the summertime is jam packed, you are better off getting there super early, or check it out at nighttime.
There is a parking lot right off of the street that charges $10 for all day parking.
Round trip is $5 per adult and I believe kids are free.
Be sure to check out the engine room up top!
